9 Effective Tips to Lose Fat in Your Face
If you want to lose weight, we know it comes with a lot of challenges. Targeting weight loss in specific parts of your body makes it harder. Most people try to target places such as their thighs, waist, or arms – but what if you want to lose weight in your face?
Make no mistake – you’re already putting your best face forward. And there are perks to having a fuller face, such as looking younger for longer. Unfortunately, there’s no shapewear for your face – and not everyone is an artist with a makeup brush and contour. If you want to gain confidence and achieve more permanent results to slim your face, we’re here to help. Here are 9 effective tips to help you lose fat from your face. A bonus? You might lose fat in other places too.
#1 Drink more water
Did you know that when you’re hungry, you might actually be thirsty? Increased thirst leads to increased hunger and therefore eating more calories. Plus, most Americans are dehydrated and don’t drink enough water. However, if you want to lose fat in your face, it’s time to drink up! Drinking water also reduces puffiness in bloating not only in your face but also in your body because it reduces fluid retention. Studies have shown that chronic dehydration actually slows down your metabolism and drinking water increases it.
But what if you don’t like water? This is a problem a lot of people have with drinking enough water. At Teami, we have a lot of ideas to jazz up your water inside of your favorite Teami Tumbler! You can start by taking our 5-Day Water Challenge. If that’s too intimidating, start with this simple Fat Burning Citrus Detox Water Recipe. Or jazz up the taste of your water and get essential electrolytes with Teami Hydrate Electrolyte Super Mix.
#2 Limit alcohol intake
Another tip to lose fat in your face is to limit alcohol. Sure, it’s fun to celebrate with a glass of wine or champagne every once in a while. But if you’re drinking too much alcohol, you’re actually interfering with your body’s ability to burn fat. Alcohol is also packed with empty calories that can increase weight gain. Another issue with alcohol is that it increases dehydration. This means your body will try to hold on to fluid. When this happens, it increases puffiness all over, including in your face. If you’re trying to lose fat from anywhere on your body, it is best to avoid alcohol.
#3 Limit salt intake
Do you love salty foods? If you do, they might be contributing to a puffy face. Sodium is involved in fluid retention. When you consume too much sodium, it throws off the balance of this electrolyte in your body. As a result, your body hangs on to fluids and makes you look puffier all over, including in your face. Limiting processed foods is the best way to limit your sodium intake. And balancing your electrolytes can also help you manage sodium levels.
#4 Do facial exercises
You have muscles in your face, just like the rest of your body. Exercising these muscles may help improve the appearance of your face. One study of fifty women doing facial exercises twice daily for eight weeks resulted in better muscle tone and a rejuvenated appearance. Some trainers recommend making a fish face by sucking in your cheeks and repeating it several times per day. Will you look a little silly doing facial exercises? Probably, but have fun with it! After all, laughing is healthy too!
#5 Try lymphatic drainage massage
Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle technique that has grown in popularity to prevent puffy skin and a dull complexion. A trained massage therapist will apply light pressure and movements such as tapping and pushing on your face to encourage lymphatic drainage. You may be able to do some of these techniques at home as well.
#6 Use a facial roller
If you want to feel relaxed, refreshed, and reduce puffiness all at the same time and haven’t tried a facial roller yet – now is the time to try one! The Teami Rose Quartz Facial Roller is a natural crystal tool that has a large and small stone that you can gently roll over your face in an outward direction for a relaxing facial massage. To reduce puffiness and increase the cooling sensation, we recommend storing your facial roller in your skincare fridge.
#7 Get adequate sleep
Beauty sleep is the real deal – sleeping well is key to losing fat in your face. Sleep deprivation causes all kinds of issues in your body. It increases your stress hormone – cortisol – which can cause you to gain weight. Furthermore, sleep deprivation increases your cravings for unhealthy foods, so you’re likely to eat more calories when you’re sleep-deprived. Have you ever been running late for work because you couldn’t get out of bed and then stopped to grab a donut for breakfast on the way in? Poor sleep quality leads to making these kinds of decisions. Adequate sleep gives your body time to repair all of its systems while you rest. And it also helps you look awake and refreshed.
#8 Control sugar cravings
To truly lose face fat, you’ll need to put that early morning work rush donut on the backburner. Sugar is public enemy #1 when it comes to truly shifting your diet and lifestyle to one that supports your health. That’s not to say you can never have sugar, ever. It means creating balance in your life so that sugar isn’t interfering with your health.
Sugary foods have little nutritional value. They cause blood sugar spikes that lead to more cravings – plus they make your body store more fat (including in your face!). That doesn’t mean you can’t have a slice of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. It just means making the healthful decision to honor your body by not having pumpkin pie – or another sugary treat – every day or several times per day.
#9 Do more cardio
If one of the reasons you have a fuller face is because you have gained weight, cardiovascular activity can help. Aerobic exercise that increases your heart rate will help you lose weight. That includes losing fat all over your body and losing fat in your face. Some people may find that they actually lose weight in their faces first! Find an activity you love that really gets your heart rate up. It doesn’t have to be the trendiest workout happening right now. You’ll want to do cardio exercises more if you actually like what you’re doing!
It’s important to note that some people cannot lose fat in their faces easily and do have fuller faces because of their genetics. You might be someone who will never be able to get rid of a double chin no matter what they do. And you know what? There’s nothing wrong with that – just like there’s nothing wrong with wanting to improve your appearance. Everyone is on a different health journey. What’s important is that we support each other with healthy tools that enhance those journeys!
